What is happiness, where does it start Is it found in treasures, or deep in the heart It comes in moments both simple and small Different for each of us, yet cherished by all To young parents It’s birth of a child That dear sweet babe So tender and mild To young child It’s first tiny toy Which for hours They truly enjoy To young lad His first baseball bat A uniform, and ball And snug fitting hat To young gal Her first Barbie Doll That parents got At a nearby mall To young boy Who knows all the names Of the many, and fun Video games To young girl It would be of course Her first real live Genuine horse And through every season As our lives unfold Happiness shines through In memories we hold To a runner It would be a jog To a family Their first puppy dog To a painter It’s an easel and brush To a gambler Their first royal flush To a reader A great mystery book To a cop It’s catching that crook Happiness is found In the joys we pursue The little things in life That feel honest and true To a chef It’s a tasty dish To an angler It’s catching a fish To a writer It’s paper and pen To a bear It’s cubs in a den To a sailor It’s sailing a boat To a musician It’s playing a note To a mother It’s caring for child To a hiker It’s out in the wild And in the simple things Our truest joy is found For love and laughter shared Make happiness abound To a pilot It’s plane in the air To a barber It’s cutting some hair To a biker To be on the trail To a bride To be under a veil To a programmer It’s writing code To a trucker Being on the road But for me It’s being at home Writing for all A provocative poem So, to sum it up The best I know how Happiness is Love To this I thee vow For riches may fade And the years pass away But love lights the heart At the end of the day In laughter and kindness In dreams we pursue True happiness lives When love carries through So, whatever brings joy May your heart always see That happiness lives In love… quietly…
